Walking in Eastern Sicily (cod. 1-12)

Volcanos, Greek theaters, stark mountains, gentle seas, fresh-caught fish, heady rich wines – Sicily has it all. Encompassing the most variety of any of Italy’s regions, Sicily also evidences the most contradictions. There’s something not quite European in the air – perhaps born upon the sirocco that often blows across the land. Or maybe it’s the hint of Saracen pirate in the waiter at the cafe, the fisherman on the dock, the maid at the hotel. Whatever it is, you can’t fail to be allured by the charm of Italy’s most enchanting island.

Highlights

  • Explore the towns of Taormina and Syracuse
  • Walk on Mt. Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano
  • Visit some of the most remarkable ancient sites in Italy
  • Enjoy great Sicilian cuisineand the heady southern wines

March 4, 2012 in Featured Tours & Events, Horseback Riding

This exclusive trek climbs all the way round the nature paths crossing contrasting landscapes of breathtaking beauty and affording the most stunning views of Sicily. The trail starts from the farm situated on the slopes of Mount Etna at 1500 metres inside the Nature Etna Park. You will ride your horse over this unique landscape rich in magnificent scenery through nature  paths in the forest, to the lunar landscape caused by the impressive lava flows.
Various species of oak and stone pine, as well as birch and beech, cover much of its sloped surface. Broom plant and other shrubs dot the area, especially at lower altitudes. Etna’s deciduous trees change color in the Autumn, creating a spectacular panoply of changing shades. Frogs, toads and turtles live in the streams and small ponds of Etna’s forests. There are also various species of  snakes and lizards. Foxes, squirrels, weasels, hare, hedgehogs, porcupine and a few wild cats also consider Etna their domain.  Overhead, you’ll see owls, falcons, partridges and the occasional golden eagle. Docile, indigenous Sicilian breed, and Arab breed horses, are available. Obviuosly our horses enjoy an excellent health since taking care of our horses is a must for us.
Nevertheless, we can have at our disposal, as a support, horseboxes and all terrain vehicles for transport of luggage and everything you need.
