We meet you upon your arrival at the Catania Airport. If you arrive early enough in the day, you can enjoy a pleasant walk on the nearby town center. Here, you can taste a typical local snacks among which the “arancino”. Literally means “small orange”. They are fried rice balls shaped like oranges and stuffed with meat sauce and cheese or vegetables. Dinner this evening is under your own arrangements, among the wide range of restaurants that this town can offer. Today begins with a stroll with your tour leader along the historical sights of the Baroque town around areas known by only locals. The walking tour ends to the local outdoor colorful market which reminds us an African souk with all the fishermen shouting their prices. With the fresh ingredients from the market Maria Teresa will welcome you at her beautiful home of the begin of 20th century with original antique furnishings, located in the central via Etnea. Here, you can develop your cooking skills and learn some delicious new recipes and secrets that even local people don’t know yet with the guidance and tips from our chef. In the afternoon we drive to Noto about an hour away. Once we settle into the agriturismo we can relax and freshen up before enjoying a welcome dinner made from home-grown ingredients.

Today we explore the southernmost of all Italian nature reserves, the nearby Vendicari, a major resting place for migratory birds set along the coastline. A sparkling gem of unspoiled coast scented with eucalyptus and wild thyme and the impossibly blue sea. The area is dominated by the antique medieval watchtower. Later we drive to a nearby beautiful estate. Here you’ll taste regional wines including the Nero d’Avola shared with a light lunch on basis of hearty typical products of this area. Then, back in the kitchen of our farmhouse, the chef will lead you through a hands-on cooking lesson to help you in discovering the simplicity of preparing some traditional Sicilian dishes. Dinner follows, and everyone eats the foods that were prepared.

Today we head to the delightful Baroque town of Noto. Corso Vittorio Emanuele, offers an architectural vista unique in the world for the unity and harmony of Baroque style, emphasized by the natural beauty of the rose color of the stone used to build the town. We’ll take a taste of granita flavors at the oldest cafè in town. The ‘granita’ is made with cold water, chopped fresh fruit with its juice and sugar. Scicli, tucked in between limestone cliffs well worth a visit as well as the nearby extensive garden of Sicily’s aromatic herbs that horticulturists and chefs can’t miss. Finally, we get to the intriguing old town of Ragusa Ibla, where fanciful Baroque churches and splendid gardens vie for our attention. Ragusa is an undiscovered jewel with few tourists, and we join the local people for the “passeggiata” in the beautifully lit piazza. Dinner this evening is under your own arrangements, free to choose from a myriad of appreciated restaurants.

Leaving the fascinating Ibla we move to Siracusa, where we will be staying for 2 nights in the heart of the picturesque old quarter of Ortygia. But first a pilgrimage to Modica on the way, is a must we can’t miss since we’ll take a taste inside the oldest chocolate factory in Sicily, in production since 1880. . Modica itself is a myriad of beautiful baroque style buildings and it is a pleasure to wander through the streets which are build up on either side of the main thoroughfare of the town. A Sicilian farms producing organic fruits and vegetables such as the world-famous Pachino tomato welcome us for a tasting of extra virgin olive oil (Monti Iblei D.O.P.) before a farm-fresh lunch complete with home-cooked dishes from local produce. Dinner this evening is under your own arrangements, free to choose from a myriad of appreciated restaurants.

This morning begins with a tour of the Ortigia outdoor market with our local hostess. Everybody knows her at the market; she will introduce you to the venders and shows where to buy the best and the freshest food. With the fresh ingredients from the market and tips picked up along the way, we head back to the fully equipped kitchen of her beautiful home, overlooking the marina. The afternoon is at leisure to explore on your own the superb monuments of Ortigia. The hotel is centrally located so everything of interest is in easy reach. This day is fully dedicated to the Etna region. A stroll on the slope of this volcano is a thrilling experience and you can get much more from it taking advantage of the knowledge of our qualified guide. . Our journey continues to the vineyard. We will enjoy a unique wine tasting of ETNA DOC label wines matched with home-made appetizers, on a sunny and airy terrace of the family-owned Etna’s Estate. Next, we head for the picturesque Taormina, Sicily’s premier resort, a tiny town whose beauty has been documented by writers for centuries. The truly majestic Greek Theatre is a classic sight you won’t want to miss. Its ruins stand with the ever-active volcano Etna as its backdrop. You will have time on your own to explore further this pedestrian town. Tonight hotel is centrally located so that you can choose where having dinner.

This morning, we are greeted by the local chef for a tour of the local outdoor market a few minutes away. Once procured the seasonal foodstuffs, and only the freshest ingredients available for our recipes, we head to the chef’s restaurant to start a fun-filled Sicilian cooking class. The afternoon is at leisure to stroll the town and try some Italian shopping. Tonight, we reserved a table at a typical restaurant where serving traditional Sicilian dishes, to celebrate with a superb dinner and saying “arrivederci” to our intimate encounter with this amazing island.
